totally forgot to take a picture with the cell phone. Hope you all will count it, if not I understand. Here's the pics.

I do have pictures of mine and Joe's birds together to prove we got two opening weekend but you all can make the call.

Default Team 15 on the board!

Definitely a trip to remember. We begin by leaving the house after work and 2 Hours & 4 stops for groceries, supper & Fresh Air BBQ later we arrived at camp. Pop was already there relaxing as he just retired!! We hopped out at 7 pm, grabbed our blinds and hit the trail. We went to Pops site 1st as it wasn’t near a roost site. Got him set up as dark was falling then sent him and little dude back to camp. The oldest and I struck out with ours as night fell. ˝ mile later got to the site and began work. Didn’t hear anything in the trees near by but kept quite anyway…right up until the time I broke the roof poll and stabbed it through the roof. Now we had a newly installed sun roof in our blind. We finished up and headed back. Finally got to bed around 11 as we were all excited and had to set up the pop up camper. We woke before the alarm, scarfed down some honey buns and hit the trail. The oldest with me and little dude with Pop. We got to our blind at about 6:50. Hit the owl at 7..nothing. Tried again at 7:15..nothing. Finally at 7:30 one gobbled way off on the other property. Then around 8, 3-4 got fired up behind us by some crows on the ONF. I figured they must have roosted on that side this week. Finally around 8:30, one seemed interested and began our way. He never did answer me directly though. He would gobble, I would answer then nothing for a awhile and then he would gobble again as if he were just checking on me. Finally one time it shook the blind. I figured him to be at about 50 yards on the other side of a thicket on a bushhogged trail. We couldn’t figure out which window to prepare from. Finally around 8:45, we heard him up the hill in another clearing. Cole could seem he every now and then but only glimpses through the pines. He acted like he wanted to play so we got turned and ready…gun up & safety off as he was at about 75 yards. He still never answered my calls directly. During one of the silent times I heard a hen yelp toward the clearing. At 9:05 he made his last gobble and we never heard him again. Cole was about to freeze but I convinced him to stay till close to 10. Pop & little dude were already back at camp as LD was freezing as well. They didn’t hear anything. We had a big breakfast and watched Rooster Cogburn. Little dude was anxious and wanted to be in the woods. The oldest didn’t want to sit for 3 hours. We agreed to swap as Pop needed to go home mid-afternoon and was only going to sit for an hour. Little dude and I hit the trail around 12:15 planning to sit for 3 hours. We got set around 12:45 and since the wind had picked up I hit a home made box call given to me as a gift. Next thing I knew I had dozed off. With a full belly and the warmness of the blind it was hard to stay awake. I looked over at LD and he was OUT. I hit the box again and dozed. I was then startled at what I thought was a gobble. Thinking I was dreaming I hit my mouth call and he fired back! I went to shaking LD to get him up. We got turned to the correct window in time to see him coming down the hill through the pines. Just a glimpse of black here and there. LD was still unsure so I called again and the gobble hurt his ears. LD was at one angle with his gun on a bi-pod and was at another. I saw him enter the field first and almost hyperventilated. LD couldn’t see him I told him not to look but to stay focused at let him walk to the gun. The bird came in and out of half struts. He then saw the decoys and Pfft! WPPPPPT began to vibrate the blind! LD could see him NOW. He told me to stop him. We had trained that when a bird was near I would stop him w/ two clucks to raise his head…he was to then shoot. Well when I clucked he went back into a spit/drum fit. I quickly whispered DON’T SHOOT. He maintained and I told him when he raised his head…squeeze. The bird began to inch his neck up and the next thing I knew he was rolling across the field! A scream of joy echoed the ONF and I almost didn’t get the blind unzipped before the door was torn off. We got to him and I knelt now a few feet shy as I was about to yak. LD came to me and took my hand and prayed thanking God for the turkey and the hunt. He refused to let me tote him and managed to get him about 100 yards back toward camp. That’s where Pop and Big brother picked us up in the golf cart. I think Grand Paw was the most proud in the group.

He shot the bird at 1:30 PM, Charles Daly YM 20 GA Federal Supreme #5’s

Pic two – Little dude getting restless during lunch

If you read through this, thank you. It was too special to write a brief post. God Bless and have a great season. Now to try and get big brother a bird. He just has to learn patience and perseverance.
