I don't like to hunt standing soybeans either, it's always the last 15 minutes of the hunt.

I do like hunting sunflowers, for some reason, deer seem to hit the fields a lot earlier

One thing where we hunt is that there is usually 50 yds of filter strip or crp between corn and woods. When the fields roll off, they leave a big strip to help with erosion. May make a difference. Looks like the cornin the pic is jammed up to the wood line

All the fields in Illinois this year were beans. For whatever reason the deer seem to like the cut corn better where I’ve hunted. I noticed this year that the deer were very active in the beans for several days after they were cut but then they seemed to prefer looking for acorns that were on the ground under big red oaks. I was amazed how little the deer were using the bean fields in Illinois. When they did use them the bucks always seems to move right along the edges

I’m leaving for Illinois tomorrow. Some quick scouting and I’m going to cheat with a ML on Friday am.

Thanks guys! Going to try to kill a couple. I’ve got cut corn nearby this year. About time... The farmers up there have been on a bean kick for years. Looking like I might have some snow on the ground for opening morning.

Any of you guys ever heard of a decent outfitter, especially rifle/muzzleloader with over the counter tags?

Dave the land owner just sent me these pics. His nephew had been trying to get this buck and Dave didn't want to tip his hand. Can't blame him but this is the potential in Iowa

Feels like the Midwest this afternoon. Cold, overcast and windy. I have seen 19 since about 1230.
