Thanks for the heads up. Very cool. He had an off year last year, at least by his standards.

Duff....

Beer was chosen in the First Round by the Astros at #28 last night

They say he has not been productive on wood bat leagues so let's hope he gets that figured out. But he should get about a $2.25 million signing bonus.

Yep, I saw that. to him. That is awesome!!!

I can't see the wood bat deal. If you can hit, you can hit! Great organization to be drafted by also!

Clemson played him in RF, 1B, and DH.

Hadn't looked at the draft results yet, but 2nd overall is flat out awesome!! Congrats to that kid for sure.

Ahh, ok. I thought he was talking about a high school kid, but still awesome.

Catcher out of Cartersville went to the Yankees in the first round. Kid is ambidextrous as a pitcher, and a switch hitter. Said he threw high 80's left handed and low 90's right handed.

Inside scoop I rcv'd was that he avoided the wood bat leagues. He only played in metal bat leagues. That's a HUGE concern when talking about power hitters.
His footwork at 1b leaves something to be desired & the hope is for him to develop as a stud DH. Wish him all the luck, at least the ball is in his court now.

Don't think he avoided the wood leagues, he played on them in highschool and on Team USA the last 2 years, but his numbers were not good or at least not up to his production with metal. He is still young and will hopefully improve now that it will be his focus.

He acknowledged that his footwork at first needed improvement and supposedly worked on that a lot this past year.

Quote:
“This year I’ve really made it be a big thing for me to go out there and take groundballs every day, run the bases the right way, do the little things right,” Beer said. “Then every day I can get off the field and say, ‘You know what? I got better today. Not just as a hitter, but as a baseball player as a whole.’ "
Just hope he does well as he is a good kid with a strong work ethic.

Wood bat crap. You don’t reach base safely 66 straight games against the best college pitchers in the nation unless you can hit. His OB % flirts with .500–for his college career. That’s nuts! Averaged 19 hrs. Dude broke national swimming records when he was a kid. ATHLETE!!!

He’s 20 yrs old. He’ll be a good one. Heard it here first !
