Default New pitcher

Ethan has been in love with baseball since he was about 9. He's played 2nd and short. He decided he wanted to try pitching this year so we've been doing lessons once a week. He's pitched a couple partial innings so far this year and done good (just getting a feel). Last night he threw 2 full innings. He was a little tense at first, walked 3 straight batters. Then he got it together and struck out 3 with the bases loaded. Second inning, he threw 8 pitches for strikes, struck out the first 2 and a grounder to first to end the inning. He was pumped! He's throwing almost 60 mph at 12 and has a nice little change up that drops hard at the plate. I was so into it that I didn't even think to snap any pics. Proud of my boy..... Hope this doesn't come off as a Bruz post.

Awesome, and nothing wrong with being proud of your kids. Even Bruz style.

Poor Bruzer. Good work Ethan.
It's OK to brag on your kid every now and then. I did the same thing this weekend with mine.

Attaboy Ethan

Jim, brag away buddy. Ethan is a fine young man.

I still remember his excitement and the love of the game he showed at the Braves game when I met him. Just wish we could have gotten that ball Hayward tossed to him. If only it hadn't tailed away, and/or I knew he wasn't going to fall off the top of the seats so I could have knocked the teen next to me out of the way.

Dang right Darin. He really enjoyed that. I haven't once pushed him. At least with ball. I would rather him hunt with me, but he's a fair weather hunter right now. He's got me signing him up for summer ball too, better than video games 24-7

Put him back at 2nd or short... I pitched from the time they let you start pitching all the way through senior nationals.. My shoulder now sounds like rice crispies...

But seriously,, congrats and it's cool to be a proud dad

That's awesome Jim!!! 60mph is bringing it!!!!

Lane went 2 for 3 last night with 3 RBI's. He's 9 and is finally gaining some confidence in his ability. They have started him at shortstop this season. He's starting to put things together out there and it's nice to see him developing a love for the game.

Hope this didn't come across as a Bruz my kid is better take over post....

Nice! Nr Jim! Just don't let him throw any junk that might mess his arm up.

exactly.

All a kid needs to know how to do at that age is throw a fastball and be able to throw an effective change up. Heck a good change up at that age will work on most batters anyway

Solid advice

No junk balls. Fastball and change. When he gets in high school he can develop a cut fastball before ever even thinking of a curve.

Yeah, keep him throwing a box change and if his hand is big enough, give a circle change up a try.

The lessons he takes are super serious about learning how to throw with arm health. That was always of the utmost importance to me. They teach healthy mechanics, warm up, and recovery. He has a good tail on his fast ball
