That is my buddy Ross and he was with me in Atlanta when we met you.

Saturday was an epic hunt, considering 3 birds were killed but also because my 1 1/2 year old dog out performed the 5 year old dog in the pic which is the best Grouse dog I have ever walked behind. Just a great hunt, we killed those birds in 2.5 hours, and moved quite a few more some of which should have added to the tally but merely escaped.

So that would also be the dog that hurt Hitch's feelings that day . ...

I love the pic of them laying on the log like that.

They weren't even scared if you know what I mea. Guess you haven't shot many grouse in your day? I say that cause it only takes one or two pellets to kill one, not too many cripples or lost birds in this game. On the rare occasion they do not stand a chance at escape as these dogs will not miss finding one and relish the opportunity.

And Fatboy, that is not the dog that hurt Hitches feelings, that is the Black and White one which got retired, but that is a long story and a welcome relief.

It is just a touch darker then a chicken, looks and tastes like wild turkey. Those 3 birds are young of the year and are smaller then mature birds. A mature grouse is about the size of a chicken, and you can imagine what an upland bird that size sounds like flushing 5 feet from your toes. The hardest part with killing them is recovering from the startling flush.

I have never hunted for grouse. Are they mostly found in the woods or fields? Describe a typical hunt Hanger.
