Default Thanksgiving 13 point

I was blessed beyond belief yesterday morning. About 8 a.m. I was able to take my best buck ever.

The morning started with me almost going to a different area of the property. I had hunted this spot the evening before and didnít see any movement. For some reason, I decided to leave my tree seat there thinking I would probably come back at some point before the week was out. When dad and I got there I had almost talked myself into going to one of our ladder stands that would give me a greater field of view. After some back and forth, I decided the Millenium tree seat would be the spot. I was basically hunting a perfect funnel type area that the bucks have been cruising the last 10 days or so.

The morning started slow for me. Dad was seeing a few deer, including a small buck chasing a doe. But just like it happens during the rut, in a blink, things can magically change. I caught movement to my right and a doe came busting down the trail. She thankfully veered into a thicket. The buck behind her didnít see her, so he kept straight ahead which put him on a direct line with me. He stopped about 35 yards out to look for her and I already had the 7mm-08 on the base of his neck. He was dead before he hit the ground.

I knew he was a good buck when he first ran in, but had no idea he was quite this big. I really didnít have time to count points initially, and that was a good thing! Itís always great to walk up and have major growth! The crazy thing is I donít know this deer. We have probably 15+ bucks on camera and I donít have a one of this buck. The magic of the rut! We have been very picky on this piece of property and we are really starting to see some results of letting some age get on the deer. This deer has 13 points inculding some awesome brow tines.

Iím bucked out after taking a beat up 7 point earlier in the year down in Spalding County. Iím going to try to get a bonus buck at some WMA hunts coming up. I really want to get the wife on a good buck also, and there is a really nice 9 point that has her name on it I hope!
