Default DRT Broadhead Failure

Wanting to try something different, I picked up a couple packs of DRT broadheads. I tried one out on a doe this evening and the blades were sheared off and the ferrule broken.

The shot was about 18 yards or so and I was shooting at a steep angle. I shot the deer a little high at the top of the shoulder. At the shot, I heard the arrow sound like I had hit the off shoulder. She took off and I saw the arrow break and the nock end fly off. I watched her run out of sight down a ridge, but heard her go down.

I climbed down, picked up the nock end and walked down the ridge, saw the scuffed leaves and no blood, but I expected that on the high shot, plus I am color blind and the leaves were still wet from the rain this morning. After looking a few minutes, I saw her laying across a branch. When I found her, I noticed there was no exit wound. She made it about 140-150 yards.

Drug her a ways and went and got the 4 wheeler to drag her on out and went ahead and drug her to the house. That's why the skin is wore off.

While skinning, I saw the rest of the shaft sticking out of the entrance and pulled out the arrow. The DRT was sheared off and the ferrule was broken. I was surprised, I've saw broke and bent blades but never one like this.

Good thing that I still have a bunch of Slick Tricks, guess I should of known better to switch from a head that I haven't ever had an issue with to one that I've never tried other than a target.

I'm not on here bashing, mine could of been a dud, but I just wanted to show the result of a broadhead failure.

No sense in bloodying up the 4 wheeler or my truck, just drove it straight from the woods to the skinning tree. Can't help that it was a hard gravel road and then some blacktop

JT will be disappointed at the bad review. LoL He has been pushing the heck out of those heads. I heard that same sound when i shot my buck this year. Keep playing the shot and the sounds I heard over and over in my head trying to figure out where i hit that deer. Never found the arrow so i assume the deer is either still carrying it around or its at the site of the bones. I plan on covering every inch of that place in Jan.
