Default Dawson's First Dove Hunt

Dawson and I loaded up early Saturday morning to head to his first ever dove hunt. A friend had given us some decent reviews from prior years on the public field in Perry, so that's where we headed. When we got there, the highway was already lined with trucks and hunters. Not sure of what to expect and cautious to put my 5 year old in the middle of a bunch of public land hunters, we parked on the side of the road and claimed a spot within walking distance of the truck at the end of a row.

We were not on the hottest part of the field by far, but we were still able to "kind of" scratch out our limit. We left with 11 birds in the cooler. As the day got longer, and people started wrapping up, 4 of our birds were picked up by other hunters that claimed they shot them...

Regardless, we'll call it a limit for Dawson's first hunt.

Also, for anyone considering hunting Perry, get used to shooting at birds a mile high because everyone else will! And for those that have hunted with me, you know that if I call someone a skybuster, it's bad!

By far, one of the best days I've ever had hunting.

Speaking of, you still even got Daisy? I aint seen hide nor hair of that dog in years man. Not even a single pic! Allie hasnt been on the dove field in a couple years. I have no doubts she would do fine though. Im gonna take her once it cools down

Yep she’s still around. She’s eased into the life of big sister and lazy house dog. Moving down here forced her into early retirement from hunting.

Allie hasnt been on a dove field in two years but she still gets bumpers several times a week. She loves to retrieve and its good exercise for the ol gal. She would probably be a little hyper at first but once she saw birds fall, she would settle in and go to work.

Glad you and Dawson had a good hunt man
