Kicked? like a mule kick?

I'm thinking you creased the brisket. Did you find any hair or bone?

It's a doe first policy on the first day only, right?

Yes, like a mule kick. No hair or bone that I could find...not saying itís not there.

Correct. Tomorrow is either sex first.

If she mule kicked, you hit her. If you would have blown her brisket off, she would have bled profusely... A blind person could follow the trail for a 100yds before it started to peter out.. Sounds like you hit her low and back from the heart.. or you straight up heart shot her. No blood on a heart shot is rare though..

Deer will sometimes jump if the bullet hit just under them..........and missed them completely......

Or you could’ve been looking in the wrong place.... Blood trail could be 10 feet away from you. Tracking in a grown up field and marking her exact spot can be difficult.

I know that all too well at Panola and in basically the same spot he is hunting. Very first hunt there I shoot a doe right at first light. I see her run 40-50 yards and fall. Get down and walk over and can't find blood. A grown up field looks very different from the ground. I did find her after doing circles for 10 minutes, but it is amazing how hard they can be to find in that grown up stuff. She didn't bleed a drop even though her insides were mushed completely.

Recap of day 1:

Had a 130”+ at 100yds
Shot a doe
Couldn’t find her
Ate a PB&J
Had a spike come in 5’ from my stand
Had a tiny doe pop out at last light
Decided to pass on her since tomorrow is either sex

And now I’m headed to bed!

Just had a nice buck walk by me at 50 yds. Fog so thick I couldn’t see him in the scope.
