Just shot a doe. Didn’t see her fall but she mule kicked a mile high. Torn between laying hands on her or just starting the buck hunt...

Yep. I called the park ranger just to confirm. He said to keep hunting.

And I hate the doe first rule. Unfortunately, the rest of the folks on the first two hunts ruined that for the following years. They kept waiting on a buck and at the end had not shot a doe or anything for that matter, which was totally against the reason for the hunt.

Itís been on fire here this morning. The buck I saw this am would easily have been one of the biggest Iíve ever killed.

Hoping I can find that doe. Either way, the park manager said not to worry about it.

Well...

I’ve never seen anything like it. I 100% killed that doe...l heard the hit, saw the death kick, watched her plow out of the field... but I searched for an hour and didn’t find a drop of blood. She ran into a super thick area and without blowing the whole field apart, I don’t know how to find her. I’m guessing I hit her slightly high and she didn’t start bleeding until she got in the thick stuff...

On the plus side, I found some man sized rubs.

Not unless another hunter here has one. Theyíre suggestion was to send in all of their park rangers to go smashing through the bedding area to find it...or I could start buck hunting!or kill another doe and then a buck if I wanted.

So Iím waiting out the sad daddy, swamp donkey, sweet beast I saw this morning.

Serious question. What if you kill the buck but don't find the doe? Is there some sort of penalty for a buck "harvest" without "harvesting" a doe first?

Normally, yes.

A guy did that this morning actually. In the past I think they’ve confiscated the buck and asked them to leave. The park manager this year is cool and recognizes how long we’ve all waited to hunt here. He’s working with the couple of us that have situations like this.

The guy this morning was just “tagged out.” He told me to do whatever I want, doe then buck or buck only.
