Default 2016 Falcons

I think they will be just a little better, seriously I looked at the schedule today and for the life of me there is not 8 wins to be had.
I will go out on a limb and go 7 and 9. And that's if Ryan don't give any away.
Predictions please.
I am looking forward to the season, and hope I am wrong, would love to see them go 10 and 6 and get in the playoffs.
GO FALCONS

7-9

They'll be better than they looked last season but they'll have a rough first 10 games of the season.

The Raiders are for real.
The Panthers are on a tear...I hope we split with the Panthers again.
Jameis and Co owned ATL last season and they have made strides to get better.
The Rams are one of the best young teams in football, but have to start a rookie. But we get him late...he won't be a rookie then.
Andy Reid has the Chiefs playing excellent Defense, but could be without their stud LB.
Oh, and the Defending SB Champs and Seahawks are on the schedule.
Oakland, Denver and Seattle away in the first 6 weeks of the season. Whoever made this schedule should have their asses kicked. I can't wait to watch this team stand up and perform in these away games. We'll know a lot about this team and where its going by their drive in the first half of the season. They have some tough opponents on the road...and on the West Coast.

They could be 4-6 at the Bye. (Its possible they go 1-5 out of the gate) Then possibly win 4 of the last 6 and get to 8-8. But that start is a gauntlet. This team is getting better...not a single doubt in my mind. 7-9 won't feel good, but it won't be a disaster either. 7-9 looks like a step back or sideways move...but this schedule and travel games make a sideways move for a young team like this a decent indicator. 6-10 is a disaster...anything 7-9 or 8-8 is par for the course...9 wins or above and this team is going to be for real in 2017. They could win 9 games. If they go 3-3 in the first 6...thats a win IMO. 4-2 and we got ourselves a ball club.

1 SEP 11 1:00PMEDT ) BUCCANEERS L
2 SEP 18 4:25PMEDT * AT RAIDERS W
3 SEP 26 8:30PMEDT + AT SAINTS. W
4 OCT 2 1:00PMEDT ) PANTHERS. L
5 OCT 9 4:05PMEDT ) AT BRONCOS. L
6 OCT 16 4:25PMEDT ) AT Seahawks L
7 OCT 23 4:05PMEDT ) CHARGERS. W
8 OCT 30 1:00PMEDT ) PACKERS. L
9 NOV 3 8:25PMEDT , AT BUCCANEERS L
10 NOV 13 1:00PMEST ) AT EAGLES W
11 BYE
12 NOV 27 1:00PMEST ) CARDINALS L
13 DEC 4 1:00PMEST * CHIEFS. W
14 DEC 11 4:25PMEST ) AT RAMS. L
15 DEC 18 4:05PMEST ) 49ERS. W
16 DEC 24 1:00PMEST ) AT PANTHERS L
17 JAN 1 1:00PMEST ) SAINTS. W

But this is the NFL, and I am basing this on last season's teams. The Panthers let Norman go...(a bigger deal than anyone wants to admit), the Broncos have a new QB and Seattle is without Lynch and has had to pay a few players which had cut down their depth.
I'm excited to watch that first game between Denver and Carolina. I honestly think it will tell us A LOT about the Panthers and Cam Newton's season. That Denver D is absurd. But they could be hung over.

As for the Falcons, we added Alex Mack...that alone in the center of this O-Line makes Matt Ryan and the offense better. But e still don't know who will be RG. His entire career, Ryan has needed time to be a great play maker...never one to create on the fly which he was forced to do last season. We know this, everyone knows this...he needs a pocket. Instead of being 1 Mississippi..2 Mississippi throw he should have time to sit back and survey the field. Alex Mack is a BIG DEAL! Roddie is gone....FINALLY, and a younger talent has filled his shoes. I think we have finally stepped past the "he means to much to ATL to let him go" mentality and base it off performance. (FYI, Roddie is still a Free Agent...NO ONE jumped on his services when he became available). Kroy Beirman either This offense "should" be better, back to elite production better. As long as Shanahan doesn't blow his load and dribble it down his leg.

As far as defense...the entire package has gotten better. They have brought in a BUNCH of LBs and D-Linemen. We already have a pro-bowl caliber CB...if a pass rush can show up we'll see just how good he is. And the new kid Neal looks like he could be a super star in the making. If he comes to fruition, no more TE down the pipe for a 3rd and long pickup.

If by some miracle this team goes into the BYE week at 5-5, or even 6-4, look out. We have something in the making in the ATL.

Best case scenario IMO...they get out of the first half 6-4, and then win 4 of the last 6 for a 10-6 record. I do not believe this will happen, but if that's the case...this is a really REALLY good football team in the making. Ryan to Julio with Freeman out of the backfield clicking...Mack providing time in the pocket, we could very well see top 3 Offensive numbers. Add Sanu and a pass catching TE (who by the way won't have to stay home to pass block as often now) and this offense can be dynamic. But Mack and Julio MUST stay healthy.

This season is going to be tough. But being the NFL, the line between winning and losing is often a single series. If this team can stay in games until the 4th quarter, we may be surprised by a few games they pull off. If the offense can return to what it was to start last season, and Mack can give Ryan extra time to make plays...this team is already better regardless of their record. I was screaming for a Center after every game last season...they addressed it in a BIG way. Probably the most under rated Free Agency move by any team. Matt Schaub also was brought back into town...he thrived in Shanahan's offense for a bit as a starter so his value to Matt Ryan off the field and during the games will be huge. Instead of Ryan being alone and these rookies and nobodies feeding off anything he does, he will have a veteran equal by his side. That's a bigger deal than most realize.

The defense is young and we have to wait and see how these draft picks turn out. Beasley will be healthy, and he's moved to LB. Jarrett is said to be a BEAST coming out of off season and both the early round draft picks this season have a lot of people excited. We'll see. Quinn has a lot of Dmitroff screw ups to clean up before we get fully on the right path. But so far I like the draft picks made in Quinn's first 2 seasons. But Beasley MUST perform this year.

Everything I've read seems to point to this Keanu Neal kid being the real damn deal. I have a feeling we will enjoy watching him this season...even if he gets burned a time or two. After all he is a rookie. Descriptions say he's a freak athlete, with extreme talent and upside with an incredible football IQ head on his shoulders. And is a devastating hitter. Coaches and writers say he's the first to arrive and last to leave every day, a book worm in the play book and always watching film. Its rare you find that combination, but often times when you do its just a matter of time before greatness shows up. I hope we see flashes of that this season. We could be a year away from having a DB group to rival that of Seattle.
