Default Climbing stands

What kinda climber would yall reccomend?

I'm in the market for a new one. It needs to be lightweight, set up easily in the dark and quiet climbing.

I've been reading the treewalker thread but want some other opinions.

summit viper!

Light weight, easy to set up and strong.

Jon has one and it's for the bigger guys. Holds up to 350 lbs but has a bigger seat than the others.

I have the Summit Backpacker. Folds down nice and neat. IMO Summit makes the quitest stand all around. The API is a good stand but is bulky, heavier, and is noisy to carry thru the woods.

You can't go wrong with either stand regardless.

why?
Goes around a bigger tree than a summit viper or goliath. Has a bigger platform than either stand....but even though its bigger. it is lighter.
Absolutely no where on the stand where there is moving parts or joints that can make a sound so absolutely silent in the tree. Not to hard to adjust in the air either (ask Quickdraw, he watched me do it at 20 feet. LOL)
I like the treewalkers but I think there will be an issue with the spikes on the stand and damage to trees...our game comission is pretty picky bout that chit

I have a Summit Goliath and an API Grand Slam Super Supreme Magnum (rated to 350 lbs).

Both are extremely comfotable, quiet and easy to put on the tree in the dark.

The Summit is easier to set up due to not having to place a pin through a hole in the shrink wrap. I had to replace the shrink wrap on mine due to it getting torn up, but the cost was about $10 and a little time, but you will need a heat gun or hair dryer.

The Summit Goliath is also lighter than the API, therefore easier to haul around.

My recommendation would be the Goliath....You could fit in the Viper but there will not be as much room and I find the extra room makes for a more comfortable sit therefore you will stay longer.

I'll give it to the summit. It's lighter. I own two Grand Slams and I love them both.

I've hunted out of a summit too and I liked it, but my Grand Slams are more comfortable.

I've got a Summit Backpacker and a Tomcat II.

Both are very small and lightweight....I like facing AWAY from the tree, so I really like the Summit. However, I like the fact that all I have to do with the Tomcat is just shimmy up the tree and not have to get my seat ready and turn around. Both are comfortable, but if I had to choose one, I would probably go with the Summit.
