Default Anyone familiar with MI-FI ????

My internet service at the house is ridiculously slow.. can't get cable so it's a phone line hook up with a max of 1.6 mbps and is usually around 1.47 mbps..
I'm thinking of ditching the internet service and going to a MI-FI wi-fi device like the Verizon Jet pack since I always seem to have a good 4g signal. My laptop runs faster on my phones wi-fi hot spot then it does when it's hooked up to the internet. ... Anyone have any experience or knowledge on this?

Yeah, when you have a good signal it works good. When you don't, it sucks.

Will require a monthly connection fee with your provider and come out of your cell plan data, if tied to your cell phone account, which could mean you need to upgrade and spend more money.

LIKE I SAID... I usually have a good 4g signal

Yes,, I know about the fees... The increase for my provider should offset the cancellation of my internet provider...

BUT, is there limitations? If I have an unlimited plan would there still be a maximum usage of the MI-FI?

Damn Frank, you get pissy over any information anyone offers.

If you wanted to know if the unlimited was for all devices, you should have asked that in the first post.

You start tethering to a device and the data gets out of control quick too brotha.

I stopped by the Verizon store and my sales associate was getting a schooling in mi-fi as she was trying to explain it to me. Every question I asked she would have to go in the back and talk to her boss and then come out and try to explain it.. She didn't do a very good job at it.
The up front cost of $50-$100 for the Jet Pack, then the line fee, then the monthly fee... I need something to run my internet at home since the current provider is extremely slow and frustrating as hell...
She tried to explain a 15gig limit but if I used 2 Jet Packs i could get 30gigs.. But said that a single 15 gig wouldn't just stop, it would just get real slow once it reached the 15 gigs. But, I would think if I had an unlimited data plan then why the 15 gig limitation??? She couldn't explain that one.

I have one for work. Itís faster than my internet at home, of course with Windstream, that ainít saying a bunch. Itís good though. I was going to drop my internet and buy a jet pack for home, but the way Verizon explained it to me was they didnít have a ďunlimited ď package. But, the salesperson said it would difficult to use the 15 gig per month unless you watched a lot of movies or something of that nature.

My daughter watches a lot of Netflix, so I didnít want to take the chance.

There is a data usage meter on the jet pack itself that tells you how much data you have remaining and the date it starts over. So it would be easy to keep up with.

I really canít tell with the ones we have at work. We have 200 GBs but several jet packs are bundled together.

I'm trying to find out from my current provider how much data I use on a monthly basis.. which is proving to be just as frustrating as their internet service

Well,,, i'm giving a Verizon Jet Pack Mi-Fi a try. I've got 14 days to return if if I don't see it working out the way I hope. I've got 15 gigs of full service then after that it slows way down. So far, the internet has been super fast responsive.
It'll increase my bill about $35 month but i'm paying $39.99 for the crappy internet service so if it works out, i'll break even.

I've blown through my 15 gigs in 14 days. the system now slows down to 600kbps for the remainder of my month. Believe it or not.. it's still faster than what I had and more reliable, does not cut out on me.
