Default Wyoming elk

Got a buddy (non hunter) I've known for 15 years who tells me for the first time Saturday that his cousin owns an outfitting business in Wyoming. I was like what the hell....how come this has never come up before? Well, I ended up talking to the cousin. Hiland Outfitters. Gonna start collecting points for an elk tag. 2 points 50/50, so maybe on year 3 I'll actually put in for a tag. This is definitely a bucket list hunt for me. Probably the only bucket list hunt in this country. The outfitter said if I could shoot straight, he could put me on one I'd be proud of. So screw it, I ain't getting any younger. Time to plan an elk trip

Bow, yo. But....in Wyoming, if I don't connect, the tag is good for a gun too. I doubt I'd go back though. I wish it was a year to year bow tag until you connect.

Never even thought about Elk hunting in Wyoming. Didn't realize they had a good population of Elk. Elk with a bow is on my list as well

What is the land like where you will be going? My father and I have been kicking this for years and he wants us to get it done sooner rather than later while he is still able. He is not up for a horseback style packing in hunt at all. Lots of climbing time would ruin the hunt for him. I've been looking at Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.

Really? Yellowstone park, Teton Mtns? Ever heard of Jackson hole? Largest wintering herd of elk in the US? The town square has 4 arches made of elk antlers.

It's private ranches. I'm sure we will to go up towards the high country around Jackson or Dubois (continental divide). I actually spent 6 months in Dubois when I was 19 working for a camping and horseback outfitter. He says he can Taylor a hunt to whatever someone's needs or physical limits are. I told him I count do whatever it took for to get within bow range of an elk.

If you just need two points, I'll be down as your point. Sounds like a cool trip!

I hunted MT October of 2015. I had the opportunity to hunt WY, but opted for MT instead. Every one of us should do a trip like that one time in your life. We didn't connect, but the trip was definitely worth it. It will probably be the only time dad and I get to do that together. I'd like to go back and hunt WY or NM though.

Good luck...
