We went on a really bad mast year, so it was tough hunting, I passed a few young bucks and only saw one that was any size.
It would be good place to take your son, they let kids hunt on the cheap. 50 bucks or so for a youth license.
I've hunted se ohio. Went 4 or 5 years in a row. As you or someone said, it is steep terrain. We hunted Wayne NF and Shawnee State Forest. As said, it all depends on the acorn crop. 1st year there were acorns and deer were everywhere. 2 out of the 3 of us killed. The next 2 years, no acorns and you were hard pressed to even see a deer. Very tough hunting.
But just think of the bragging rights you would have if you killed one there. One I killed there might score 120. Imagine that, a 120" mountain buck
