Aknowledging the need acually is prayer itself. In other words the prayer is sent before it is even said.

As others have said, there is no need to "drop everything". The man upstairs knows what's in our hearts and that to me is the whole crux of my religion. I know I don't go to church as much as I probably should, but my relationship with him is very real and very personal, it's just not always public. There are many people I pray for that never asked for it or even know I do it.
