Default Baited fields

Cpl's Mike Wilcox and Shaymus McNeely are pictured with 279 confiscated dove from a baited field this past weekend in Emanuel County. Rangers checked over 3000 hunters on almost 400 fields, of which 52 were baited. They counted over 11,000 dove and confiscated 748 birds. Over 200 charges were made statewide over opening weekend, from Hunting Under the Influence to unplugged shotguns. No hunting accidents were reported.

I saw that as well. 7% of the hunters out there were breaking the law. The same percentage of birds was confiscated. Well close enough to the same %.

That's great, but I still don't understand why they confiscate birds.

Those 279 above went to the local jail to feed the inmates

Trust me, it's not a good feeling when the plane is circling the field.

Ive never seen a plane but two years ago, a bunch of us here had a SWAT team of Wardens bail out on us. 4 or 5 of them bailed out of a SUV. They checked us over from head to toe. Checked coolers, checked shotguns, walked the fields looking for bait.

Not ONE citation was written.

If they didn't confiscate the birds, what would be the point of the fine? Everyone is out there shooting doves to eat...that hurts worse than a 100$ fine if you ask me. I want that meal!! LOL

That is horseshit. Unnecessary. I'd be pissed if an assault team jumped out and hit a field I was on. Innocent until proven guilty.

I think youve hunted those fields before. I was sitting there and watched one Warden ride by in his pickup truck and never even stop.........An hour or so later, a whole dang group of them swarmed us.

So not really a SWAT team? Just a big group of wardens came to the field? And did routine walk through/around checks?

I had never witnessed anything like it before in my life. They showed up about the time the birds starting flying good too..........No one stopped hunting unless they were being checked It sounded like a freakin war zone out there.

how long do you think there would be enough doves to hunt if wardens didn't check people and write tickets. 5 years Maybe!
