Just seems like everybody either goes to Montana, New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho or Utah. Had the chance to hunt Montana last year but was a gun hunt. The group killed 4 Elk out of 5 hunters. They said the bears actually go towards the sound of a rifle shot. It's the dinner bell ringing to them. One bear ended up on the menu himself. LoL

While I was growing up from early 80s thru mid 90s, my Dad and his buddies went almost every year to Colorado, they packed in and stayed for a couple of weeks. They went a few more times in the early 2000s, usually every 2nd or third year.

I thought of going a couple of times with them when I got to the point that I felt like I could afford to go, but my problem was always the amount of time they were gone. THey were usually gone 3 weeks and I couldn't justify using all my vacation for a 4-5 day hunt. I was more into bowhunting at the time and they always went in October rifle hunting and that didn't appeal to me much. They killed lots of elk and mulies back in those times.

Looking back, I regret not going, my Dad is too old to go now, so I have to be fine with hunting his buddy's place a few times a year with him.

The one negative about him going out there was he basically quit deer hunting in Georgia. My Dad was like me when he was in his 20s thru mid 30s, hunted all the time, but when they started going to CO, he said GA hunting just didn't compare and he lost interest in whitetails here at home. When we go to the plantation, he won't shoot a deer, but he will shoot a hog if he sees one and he still loves to turkey hunt, he just can't chase them like he used to, back thru the mid 80s thru about 2010, he was tough on turkeys. Not saying he was a poacher, but he looked at the limit as more of a daily possession limit and not a season limit.

Good luck on your adventure.
