Default Persimmons

Persimmons are still solid green in my neck of the woods. Good crop but not going to be ready to hunt until late Sept I imagine. My crab apples are completely bare of fruit. Sure wish they would legalize baiting in Northern Zone. I just need it opening week of bow and last 2 weeks of gun

Shyboy would be dead if baiting was legal...

They usually aren't good to hunt till early to mid October. Every now and then, some will hit the ground in late Sept.

I never get to hunt persimmons. None around home and only a couple of trees on our lease.

I personally don't see the big deal about baiting. We run legal feeders all season and I don't see the difference being 200 yards away compared to 50. I wouldn't set up directly over one with the exception of early bow season and extreme late season and then it wouldn't be all the time.

I hunt over corn in Laurens and Bleckley sometimes, but kill just as many down there sitting on cuts and field edges. The only difference that I see where corn really helps is getting deer to stop for a moment.

Example: Last year on our January hunt, the deer were hitting a new canola field and to get there, the deer were coming from several hundred yards and crossing one of the interior dirt roads. We set a stand looking straight down the road about 300 yards from the field between it and the primary bedding area, we poured corn from about 50 to 250 yards down the road in a line. Waited a couple of days and we took turns hunting there and we killed 7 or 8 deer from one stand over a day and a half. I know all the ones that I saw stopped at the corn from 30 seconds to 30 minutes and I picked out a couple to kill.

Thats where corn makes a difference

My bird field is wrapped up in persimmons, but they're still green as well.
