Default Spinal tap on 8 point

With the white oaks hitting the ground around the house, I went to one of my favorite ridges that overlooks an oak flat and a steep creek bottom. I watched a couple of does/fawns around 5 o'clock feed across the flat never coming into range. About 630, after a game of Candy Crush, looked up and saw some movement about 80 yards away, saw it was one of the 8 points that I have been getting on camera.

As normal around here, the biggest bucks are nowhere to be found, so I decided to take this one which is the 3rd biggest I have on camera this year. He was headed straight to me and the closer that he got, the more I realized he was going to walk under me and only give me a quarter to shot no matter which way he veered. I drew back thinking he might turn and followed as he closed the distance on a walk. He stopped to eat an acorn and started to turn, but after a bit, he turned back toward me.

I was still drawn back and when he dropped his head straight down again, I said **** it, and put the pin a couple inches behind where the shoulder blades meet. I released and saw the lighted nock hit exactly where I aimed and he dropped in his tracks. He kicked a couple times and let out a grunt/bleat and was dead.

Lot of people look down on an intentional spine shot, but I've killed several with that shot and have no problem taking one if the conditions are right.

What sucks is that more than likely, he was 3.5. He dressed around 135, the racks just don't get anywhere near like what I see in Troup, but around here, you either shoot 'em or they get hit by cars.

My Dad helped them stock deer around here in the early 70s and must of chose the Ossabaw deer
