Default Rem. XCR 270 Win Facelift

Quick snap shot of thoughts and what's going on...

Purchased, new, a Remington Model 700 XCR in 270 Win. for no other reason that I wanted it. After hunting with it a little, I found the factory stock to be, well, a piece of sh*t (for lack of better words). I also found that the gun strung shot vertically, a sign of bad bedding (again, a stock issue).

I sold the stock and purchased a Laminiated Thumbhole for it. Before even shooting it in the new stock, I sent the entire gun off to Hill Country Rifles in Texas to be bedded and accurized. http://www.hillcountryrifles.com/accurizeit.aspx

Now it's on it's way back to me, should arrive sometime this week.

A few more tweaks and it should be ready for next season.

-------------------------

Improvements...

Solid stock with warm wood feel
Proper bedding
Improved accuracy, from 1.5" to sub-moa (according to Hill Country)
Improved trigger

Will show pictures of "AFTER" as soon as she arrives home...

Here's the before;

10/4, will do...

Here's the trigger in it... set at 2.5lbs... http://www.riflebasix.com/
Here's the stock on it... http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/BrowseEbus/ROSSall.asp
Here's the recoil pad I'm putting on it... http://www.limbsaver.com/Products/Fi...ecoil_Pad.aspx

More than likely, I'll be shooting "Hornady 130 gr. Interbond" ammo from it. That is until I get my new addition built onto my current home and get my reloading station set up and going.

Sounds like a cool project! Can't wait to see the final product!!

Question? How come you didnt just see how the stock would effect accuracy before sending it off???

How come you painted a perfectly good stock?

Because he wanted to

Andy doesnt like much of nothing "factory"........Just about every gun he owns has been tweaked in some sort of way.................he has the baddest turkey gun Ive ever laid eyes on............it started out as a Rem 870 Super Mag like mine

B/C it wouldn't have been bedded at all and that fact alone gave me very little confidence in repeatable accuracy.

gotcha, was just curious if it was just preferential, or there was something pertaining to accuracy or such...

wow! i was hoping it'd have the peppered stock! looks great!

I have been thinking about putting a thumb hole stock on my .270, that link from where you ordered yours is great.

Chances are, it'll add some weight to your gun and with the added control of the thumbhole you'll get less recoil on both the physical and perceived end of the deal.
