Default 1st scouting trip to bama

went out after church this afternoon, w/ my buddy jeff, and checked on some birds we have hunted every yr for the past 12 yrs. they seem to be doing fine, and are haunting the same old spots. spruced up a few blinds that have been out there for yrs, had a few cold ones and watched the sun set. sure is good to get out in the woods! knowing what i know, i won't go back in there until march 15...now i can get started scouting ga birds. probably go to my taylor/marion lease this week and check a bit, then i'll be checking the public birds next. i have 5 longbeards that frequent my place here in harris co., but the wife says they get amnesty...she has made them into pets!

Everyone is talking about the numbers of birds hanging out in the fields this year..................looks to be a fine year shaping up in my area!

One place I hunt had 63 hens in a flock last year and 9 gobblers. Not the best odds when you divide that out.

A henned up field turkey can be tough to kill.............

the toughest in my book.
try a bubba decoy if you can set it up without getting busted. most of the time that biggun can't stand the sight of another tom. me and a buddy of mine used to use a mounted gobbler just for hard headed field toms. it usually worked.the hard part was getting it set up w/o getting caught though.

Sounds good! You'll give em hell as usual, I expect.

Not sure I could give those gobblers around the house a free pass.....

ahh, it will be hard. i do know that eventually they will split company, and some will wind up on the backside of the property...where they are fair game. right now, they are dusting under the bird feeder in the backyard.
