My advice is to start him off on a BB gun. Then... let him shoot a .22.

Even a 2.5Ē 410 #8 load has a bit of a kick and is loud.

I would recommend also, putting some ear protection on him and let him stand behind you, while you shoot a 410 or any other gun with a sizable report.

Donít worry or try to rush him into it. 😉

Agreed, and he has shot both. We don't have a TON of trigger time in, but he has been shooting BB guns and .22s for a little while now. Trigger strength is my bigger concern.

I have a .410 with a recoil pad that is fairly mild. I'm going to let him shoot it with bird shot and see what he thinks. If he can shoot it ACCURATELY, I'll let him have a chance for a turkey. If not, we'll keep practicing and he'll tag along with me.
