I just had Bi- Lateral decompression on L-3 on Feb. 1. This is my first back surgery. I had severe nerve pinching in this area. They have effectively removed the proverbial ice pick from my spine. My legs feel normal again with no pain, no weakness, no tingling or numbness. I went Thursday for my follow up, and just so happened, that morning I had some pain in that same area. They explained to me that my nerves were so pinched, for so long( many years), that it would take some time, 6 months to a year, for things to fully heal. They said, in my case, I may never regain some nerve function completely. I also have arthritis in my back, as well as degenerative disc disease. Disc between L4-L5 is almost gone. We discussed it probably needing to be fused in the future. Be glad to answer any questions you may have if I can. My recoup is going great. I walked a mile yesterday, and about to go do it again.
